Biographical Sketch:
Dr Debra Parker Oliver began working in hospice as a social worker and hospice administrator in a small community based volunteer hospice in the Midwest in 1982. In 1986 she founded a hospital based medicare certified program, one of the first in the state. After 15 years of hospice clicial practice and management she returned to get her PhD, graduating in 200 with a passion and dedication to focus her research on improving hospice practice. Dr parker Oliver has conducted numerous intervention resarch projects in hospice. She is currently the Principal Investigator on a multi-site randomized controlled trial which is funded by the national Insitute on Nursing Research. Dr Parker Oliver has more than 80 peer reviewed journal articles and two book chapters relating to hospice rearch. She has served as the President of the Missouri Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and was the founder and President of the Missouri End of Life Coalition. She is currently an Associate Professor in Family and Community Medicine at the University and works with medical students and residents to understand the psychosocial aspects of dealing with individuals and families at the end of life.
