Biographical Sketch:
I graduated in 2000 with a Masters in Dietetics. I worked at a large teaching hospital and was exposed to lots of diseaes and patients. I started working with ALS patients in 2001 as the dietitian at the ALS clinics at KU Med Center in Kansas City, MO. I still work there now as the dietitian and now work for 2 ALS clinics. In 2004, I started working with Northcare hospice. We started our ALS Program in 2005 and I have been a member of this team ever since. I currently follow all the ALS patients that we have on service and help them with their eating and swallowing problems. I help the ones that have a feeding tube to monitor their tube feeding. My coworkers and I have presented 2 years ago at the National ALS Meeting on our innovative program for ALS patients. We found out that many hospice's were not familiar with ALS and did not know how to take care of ALS patients. It has become a mission to teach everyone involved with hospice about ALS and how we can give ALS patients the best care possible at their end of lives.
