Since 1993, Fredda and the staff of clinicians and volunteers at OUR HOUSE have provided grief support groups for thousands of grieving children, teens and adults. Through professional continuing education programs, Fredda presents workshops and seminars on end of life and grief for therapists, clergy, educators, hospice staff, and mental health professionals at locations throughout the country. Over the last ten years, Fredda has trained all first-year medical students at USC’s Keck School of Medicine, as well as second year students from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, in the art of working with dying patients and grieving families. Fredda is the co-author with Norine Dresser of Saying Goodbye To Someone You Love: Your Emotional Journey Through End of Life and Grief (DemosHealth, 2010). The book consists of moving narratives about end of life and grief, based upon first-hand interviews with patients, families, and health care professionals. These personal histories are complemented by practical guidelines on how to navigate through the tidal wave of emotions and reactions of saying goodbye. The book provides a hopeful perspective on the challenges of caring for the dying and living with grief.
