Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Wittenberg-Lyles is a communication researcher whose focus is on communication in hospice teams. She is currently an Associate Professor in Communication Studies and has a PhD in Communication from the University of Oklahoma. In 2010, she was named the Lewis Donohew Outstanding Scholar in Health Communication and in 2009 her article on palliative care communication training was given the outstanding article of the year award by the National Communication Association. She is a part of the Telehospice research team and serves as Co-investigator on a current multisite randomized controlled trial to improve hospice pain management. Her first co-authored book Communication as Comfort: Multiple Voices in Palliative Care detailed the complexities of communication in end-of-life care and her recent volume is titled Dying in Comfort: Family Illness Narratives and Early Palliative Care. She has more than 50 peer reviewed journal articles relating to hospice team communication, palliative care communication training, and caregivers.
