Biographical Sketch: Dr. Steinhorn has developed two pediatric palliative care programs over the last 15 years. He was origianally certified by ABHPM in 1997 and by the Board of Pediatrics in 2008. He is medical director of palliative care at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and an attending physician in the pediatric ICU. He has an active research program in opiate receptor genetics and has published on a wide range of translational and clinical topics. He was the medical director of the Integrative Medicine program for 7 years, has training in Peruvian shamanism and energy medicine.
Dr. Steinhorn is the chapter author on Integrative Medicine in the Oxford Textbook of Pediatric Palliative Care as well as lead author of several other chapters in the field. He is considered an authority in pediatric integrative medicine research in addition to his palliative care practice.
