Biographical Sketch: Sally Adelus is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Hospice of the Valley in San Jose CA. She has over twenty years of clinical and administrative healthcare expertise and advocacy in pain management and palliative care, specifically in pain program development, research, education, and healthcare management. Her exemplary leadership has increased access to palliative and end-of-life care for those most vulnerable, while advocating an approach that is truly patient and family-centered. Sally was integral in creating innovative and comprehensive chronic pain programs that transformed common practice in pain management in California. She is a thought-leader and educator on pain management, palliative and end-of-life care issues where her leadership and expertise have been sought by teams in the UK and USA. Sally has presented nationally and internationally and has authored and co-authored pain management and pain research publications. Requested by the State of California legislature, Sally has presented expert testimony on pain and end-of-life issues to the California State Senate and Assembly. In 2007, Sally received the NHPCO Heart of Hospice award, a national recognition for her continuous leadership and dedication to hospice and palliative care. Sally is the Past Chair of the California Hospice Foundation and a Past President of the California Hospice and Palliative Care Association. She served on the Governance Committee for the National Hospice and Palliative Care Association and also served on the National Board of Directors of the American Society of Pain Management Nursing. Currently, Sally is a member of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization Board of Directors and represents the West Geographic Area.
