Biographical Sketch:
April Perry is the clinical educator at Duke HomeCare & Hospice and also on the faculty at the Duke School of Nursing. She has nearly 30 years of clinical experience mostly in advanced practice in both adult and pediatric cardiology, oncology, intensive care medicine and pulmonary. Working as an advanced practice nurse, April worked closely in educating patients and their families and providing clinical care. She has published numerous articles both professionally and personally. She speaks regularly at national and regional hospice and home care conferences on a variety of topics related to patient care and regulatory issues. She has a bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a master’s degree in adult education. She does medical mission work in Haiti with a local nonprofit , Luke's Mission which promotes public health initiatives with the rural poor. In 2010 she was awarded the prestigious Community Caregiver of the Year by Duke University Health System for her humanitarian work in Haiti. She has authored 2 books entitled “They Suffer in Faith, stories of the life transforming work of God among and through the People of Haiti, and “ No hands but yours-first response work following the Haitian earthquake” . April lives in Durham, NC on her farm with three horses and 2 dogs.
