Biographical Sketch:
Sharon Bigger, RN CHPN, is a master’s degree candidate in Philosophy and Religion (2011) at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Drawing on her experience as a hospice nurse, she is focusing her research on caregiving as a rite of passage. She has presented at the Association for Research on Mothering, the Southeast Women’s Herbal Conference, and the Association for Hospice and Home Care of North Carolina’s 39th Clinical Team Conference. Her academic presentations focus on the politics and economics of care, while her community presentations train beginner caregivers. Presentations to hospice professionals focus on empowering lay caregivers to maximize outcomes. She has served as a health educator among farmworkers in Latin America and the eastern United States. A Geriatric Resource Nurse at Mission Hospitals in Asheville, North Carolina, she was also a founding member of the Integrative Nursing Initiative. Currently she serves as Clinical Educator for Carepartners Hospice and Palliative Care.
