Biographical Sketch: Robin Stawasz, LMSW, is currently the Director of Provider Relations and Family Services at Southern Tier Hospice and Palliative Care in Corning NY. She oversees the growing Provider Relations Department there as well as all non-nursing clinical staff and volunteers. Through the Provider Relations Department, she has guided the development of several diagnosis specific programs, including LifeBeat – a cardiac specific hospice program, Living with Dementia – a dementia specific hospice program, and Breath – a respiratory specific hospice program. She has also been a part of developing and funding a community palliative care program as well as pursuing contracts with local hospitals for in-patient palliative care. This, along with a great deal of relationship building and provider education work, has helped Southern Tier Hospice and Palliative Care undergo a 50% growth in their census as well as a increase in their length of stay while many comparative hospices were experiencing decreases.
Robin joined Southern Tier Hospice and Palliative Care in 1990 as a Social Worker and has watched her role grow and develop as the organization has. She has worked closely with several other hospices to help them launch their own diagnosis-specific programs. She has also given presentations on the local, state and national level, including at HPCANYS and NHPCO Annual Conferences.
