Learning Objectives:
1. Identify collaborative opportunities between hospices and local ALS staff to develop specialized hospice programs for ALS patients
2. Describe how Northcare Hospice has developed a specialized ALS program and why it continues to be successful
3. Identify the specific end-of-life issues in ALS patients
This presentation will explore strategies for success in the development of a specialized ALS program by hospice organizations. Northcare Hospice has had a specialized program for ALS patients since 2005. Faculty will describe how hospices can develop programs of their own in order to provide the best end-of-life care to ALS patients. This session will discuss how collaboration between interdisciplinary staff can work in devoloping a successful hospice ALS program. Faculty also will discuss patient care needs, family needs, equipment needs and issues specific to the end of life for an ALS patient and how these obstacles can be conquered.
