Children and Grief 101: Helping Children Cope with Grief and Loss

This presentation will identify and elaborate on the different manifestations of grief for children including behaviors. Participants will learn how to help a grieving child through supports, activities and other strategies. In addition, this session will explore the tasks of mourning and discuss specific interventions to successfully help children cope with grief and loss.

1. Describe the physiological, emotional, behavioral and spiritual manifestations of grief in children
2. Discuss a child's perception of grief and loss as it relates to the stages of development
3. Communicate with children and caregivers about grief and loss
