Biographical Sketch: Melanie P. Merriman is an quality assessment, performance improvement and program evaluation consultant specializing in chronic and end-of-life care. She is the founder of Touchstone Consulting in North Bay Village, FL. For 6 years, Dr. Merriman was Director of Quality and Compliance for VITAS Healthcare Corporation, the nation’s largest provider of hospice care. She is also a co-author of the Missoula-VITAS Quality of Life Index, an instrument for measuring quality of life for terminally ill patients, and The QAPI requirement: Resources for Hospice Programs. Dr. Merriman directed evaluation technical assistance programs for The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s end-of-life care initiatives, works with hospice and palliative care providers, and has served on several national task forces to improve palliative and end-of-life care processes. Dr. Merriman has a PhD in Biology and an MBA in Health Care Administration.
