Biographical Sketch:
Rafael Sciullo is President and CEO of Family Hospice and Palliative Care in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. With over 20 years of experience in end-of-life care, he has served as President of The Connecticut Council of Hospice and Palliative Care for five years and worked closely with legislators and industry representatives on state, regional and national levels to shape public policy to improve care for the dying. Rafael was a member of the Board of Directors of NHPCO from 1997 – 2003 serving as chair for two years. With a focus on cultural aspects of the experience of dying, he has lived and worked with Hispanic and Navajo communities and is one of the founders and co-directors of the Institute to Enhance Palliative Care in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh. Rafael holds an MA from the University of San Diego, MSW from the University of Connecticut and an MS in Health Care Management from The Hartford Graduate Center. He received the Founder’s Award from NHPCO in 2004 recognizing, “an individual of national or international stature with longevity and inspiration in the hospice movement who has evidenced a pioneer spirit in opening the frontier of healthcare and hospice.” He continues to serve on various NHPCO committees and is a member of the National Hospice Executive Roundtable.
