Laura Koehler, LCSW, ACHP-SW is Director of Clinical Services-South at Hospice By The Bay. She has been at HBTB for 20 years. During her first 12 years with the agency, she was a clinician serving over 1,000 hospice patients. From 2002 to 2006, she served as Social Services Manager. In 2006, she became the first non-nurse team leader in the agency’s 30-year history. Currently, five out of eight of HBTB's team leaders are master’s-prepared social workers. In 2009, Laura was promoted to Director of Clinical Services-South, the first time a non-nurse held a clinical directorship at the agency. Her current responsibilities include overseeing HBTB’s San Francisco office (with an ADC of 80-100 and 55 staff), as well as overseeing the Spiritual, Bereavement, Volunteer, and Social Services departments. Additionally, she supervises the manager of the clinical administrative assistants and shares oversight of after-hours services. In 2009, Laura was nominated for the prestigious Pierre Salmon Award, presented by the California Hospice and Palliative Care Association (CHAPCA), and in 2010 she was awarded a Certificate of Recognition from the California State Legislature for her work in the field of hospice. Her article on the Transdisciplinary Team was featured in the September 2011 issue of NHPCO’s NewsLine.
