Biographical Sketch:
Marci Thomas, CPA, MHA is a Principal and Director of Quality Control with Metcalf-Davis in Atlanta, GA where she specializes in audits and consulting for healthcare organizations including hospice providers. Her clients have included physicians, hospitals, hospice, nursing homes, assistive living facilities, federally funded health clinics, psychiatric inpatient and outpatient facilities and health plans. Marci is also a clinical assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she teaches health care consulting, strategy and finance in the School of Public Health. Marci also writes and teaches continuing education programs in the areas of risk assessment, internal control, governance, grant compliance and various other topics related to health care and not-for-profit organizations and health related government agencies. From 1986 through 1999 and again in 2005, Marci worked for Deloitte, primarily in the accounting and advisory services department. Most recently, she was a Director in Deloitte Consulting’s strategy and operations practice. While at Deloitte, Marci was nationally recognized for her work with healthcare companies, and not-for-profit organizations. Marci received her Bachelor in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from the Georgia State University and her Masters in Health Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She conducts approximately 60 full day training sessions a year is a frequent speaker at local, regional and national conferences. She is the author of Essentials of Physician Practice Management (Jossey Bass) and Best of Boards: Sound Governance and Leadership for Nonprofit Organizations (AICPA), which was published in June 2011. Marci serves on the audit committee of the Marine Conservation Biology Institute. She is a member of American College of Healthcare Executives, Healthcare Financial Management Association, Medical Group Management Association, the Georgia Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She is a member of the Georgia Society of CPAs Peer Review and Healthcare Committees and the North Carolina Association of CPAs, Not-for-Profit Committee. Marci is licensed as a CPA in Georgia and North Carolina.
