Area of Emphasis: Workforce Excellence
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe different types of physician disruptive behaviors
2. Identify underlying causes of disruptive behavior including substance related impairment
3. Discover strategies to manage behaviors
Nine-five percent of physician executives reported encounters with disturbing, disruptive, and potentially dangerous behaviors. Disruptive physician behavior impacts the overall performance of a hospice by affecting staff morale and turnover, complicating external relationships with the community, even directly jeopardizing patient care. A traditional view of medical hierarchy where the physician is untouchable is unacceptable in today’s modern healthcare environment. Leaders of hospices should be creating and developing protocols to manage disruptive and inappropriate behaviors. This course will provide important definitions and will identify and create processes to eliminate unprofessional behavior.
