1. Describe Latino immigrant population’s cultural needs around grief and loss
2. Identify school-based outreach and grief support activities that might fit in their community
3. Apply a five-step process for cultural adaptation of educational materials
4. • Formulate a plan for establishing a bereavement program for Latino children and youth
Learn the steps to successfully implement an innovative and culturally sensitive bereavement service for Latino children and youth. Using a framework of cultural humility, faculty will identify cultural and outreach considerations regarding grief and loss in the Latino community and share effective strategies for building relationships with community/school gatekeepers; crafting culturally sensitive, youth specific messages and outreach; developing grief support groups at local high schools; developing specialized materials for Latino parents and youth; and ongoing collaboration with community providers.
