Primary Presenter:
Shirley Otis-Green, MSW, ACSW, LCSW, OSW-C
Area of Emphasis: Education
Learning Objectives:
1. Recognize the need for innovative psychosocial-spiritual palliative care education to enhance leadership and advocacy skills for psycho-oncology professionals
2. Discuss the educational design and outcome measurement strategies used in a five-year educational program
3. Consider how the pre-course, post-course, six- and twelve-month follow-up evaluation data from 300 participants have applicability within their own settings
This presentation will describe the design and impact from a five-year, NCI-funded intensive leadership training program for 300 competitively selected psychologists, social workers and spiritual care professionals. Extensive six- and twelve-month follow-up evaluations asked the participants to report on their confidence regarding key palliative care competencies and on the progress that they have made instituting their change goals. The curriculum provided psycho-oncology professionals with strategies to become more effective change agents for enhanced palliative, end-of-life and bereavement care within their institutions.
