Many hospice nurses are elevated into preceptor roles based on their expertise at the bedside. While it is essential that the nurse preceptor possess outstanding clinical skills, other qualities are necessary to successfully transition other nurses into hospice roles. Chapters Health System has created a multifaceted system for the development of nursing as a whole through the transformation of nurses into preceptor leaders. This program has resulted in positive nurse preceptor retention and recruitment outcomes, as well as improved overall nurse confidence.
