Management of pain in palliative care focuses predominantly on the multidisciplinary team's interventions in response to the patient's experience of pain and increasing physical discomfort. As a vital complement to comprehensive pain management, this workshop teaches methods for instructing patients to actively intervene with their pain sensations to help them achieve optimal pain management. Participants will learn specific imagery and mindfulness practices promoting coping, self-control and empowerment within the pain experience. Pain is a profound journey requiring a wide variety of interventions. Providing patients specific skills for self-generated pain management enhances proactive participation in their lives and ongoing treatment.
