Friday, October 7, 2011: 4:15 PM-5:15 PM
Primary Presenter:

Area of Emphasis: Clinical/Medical Care

3. Explain the concept of helpfulness, possible missed opportunities and ways to measure where one is on the continuum of helpfulness
Working as clinicians can challenge and uplift. Challenges with boundary setting, nurturing of self while avoiding depletion are always there. How does the compassionate caregiver deal with the suffering, helplessness and exhaustion of the clinical visit? How does one recover from the visit so as to move to the next patient? What might be signs that a person has crossed boundaries and is no longer the caregiver? This session will explore some of these questions and give some concrete ideas to revitalize and recheck one’s health in these areas. Centering, closure, and defining of professional boundary setting will be reviewed.
