1. Describe and apply the dignity-conserving model of palliative care to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities
2. Recognize and name styles of communication employed by persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including nonverbal communication
3. Discern what makes an effective strategy or intervention for this population and list a dozen ideas
Children and adults with various intellectual disabilities are part of our communities, and working to support them as they come to the end of their lives requires knowledge and strategies we may not have learned in our hospice training. When a patient has limited language skills, working with them can seem even more mysterious and daunting. Come learn successful strategies for working with this population, including many clinical examples using the creative arts.
