Cultural competence can be defined as an ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures. Superheroes and video games are the new cultural competence in pediatrics. Knowledge of superheroes, their stories and different styles of video games can help clinicians effectively interact with kids and even be used as a metaphor to assist kids in understanding illness, hope and teamwork.
