Monday, November 5, 2012: 2:45 PM-3:45 PM
Primary Presenter:
Stephen Leedy, MD, FAAHPM
Co-Presenter:
Philomena D'Sa
Area of Emphasis: Bereavement
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the importance of identifying teen grief
2. Differentiate the unique features of teen grief from grief in other life stages
3. Discuss strategies for helping teens manage grief
Each individual grieves a loss differently. Teens, as a group, exhibit stereotypical grief responses that differ in character from those in other life stages and, therefore, often go unrecognized. In this session, faculty will describe the characteristics of the grieving teen, suggest strategies for engaging them in a therapeutic relationship and provide specific case examples that demonstrate these concepts.
