Burnout, compassion fatigue, caregiver exhaustion…who among us isn’t aware of the present and heavy burden these phenomena have on our field and our ability to take care of ourselves and others? How can we build resilience and renew our capacity to be fully present to the suffering of others? The wisdom traditions of the East, Shamanism and Christian mysticism provide practical tools and techniques to refresh the spirit and recharge our capacity to take care. In this presentation, we will explore together the time tested and evidence-based spiritual technologies of the wisdom traditions including contemplative prayer, re-connecting with nature and the use of mantra as medicine to release the stress and negativity and renew our resiliency.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the energy exchange that takes place when caring for someone who is suffering
2. Identify the positive effects of meditation, contemplative prayer and re-connecting with nature
3. Apply techniques to promote self-care and healing as well as the care and healing of others
