Recently a difficult case of a patient with the need for discontinuation of non-invasive ventilation at the end of life in an in-patient hospice unit highlighted a significant gap in education and protocol development. To address this gap, simulations were developed so the interdisciplinary team (IDT) could interact in small groups with patient actors before exposure to new learning. Immediate de-briefing occurred along with the introduction of a new protocol for the discontinuation of non-invasive ventilation. This session will examine the use of the simulation to proactively educate and evaluate the discontinuation of non-invasive ventilation at the end of life in the in-patient hospice setting.

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify simulation as an adult learning model for educating a hospice IDT
2. Evaluate the advantages that simulation training may hold for addressing barriers to a peaceful dying experience
3. Describe how distressing issues can be addressed in a calm and supportive learning environment with the IDT
