Statistics demonstrate that 1 in 4 deaths in the Unites States is a Veteran. Veterans have unique needs related to their military service and their end-of-life experience may be different from the usual hospice patient. There may be lack of knowledge about how the nurse and hospice aide can work together to assure plan of care needs are meet with comfort and dignity. This session will address these issues and explore opportunities to improve end-of-life care to Veterans.

1. Define the roles of both the RN and the hospice aide in providing care to the Veteran at the end of life
2. Describe several of the physical and psychosocial needs of Veterans during the last days or hours
3. Name Veteran specific issues surrounding death and dying
