This presentation will review the multicultural influences in the Latino culture, which in turn influence Latino perspectives on death and dying. Latinos, as citizens of many countries, have similarities in culture, but also differences. They are a fusion of cultures. The core cultural and religious values will be discussed along with a review of Latin American’s history, including the influences the Spanish, English and Portuguese had on the Indigenous culture of the regions. This session will include concrete, practical suggestions on how to deliver effective education and care to individuals and families from a Latino culture.

1. Identify different cultural values and beliefs amongst Latinos related to death, dying and bereavement
2. Describe three examples of funeral rituals and mourning practices in Latino culture
3. Discuss strategies that can be used when caring for Latinos that incorporate core cultural values, religious practices and beliefs
