Chesapeake 4-6 (Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center)
Primary Presenter:

Co-Presenter:
Louis Benson, PhD
Area of Emphasis: Executive Leadership
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify why and for whom organizations need a succession plan
2. Describe how to initiate succession planning
3. Review and summarize the succession planning process
A key component of the success of any organization’s future leadership is both the recognition and execution of a successful succession plan.  An organization must first address which positions or areas need a succession plan.  This is ordinarily thought of as CEO succession, but should also be broadened to include board members and other key positions of management.  This session will provide practical, easy-to-implement techniques to develop future leaders within your organization. Succession planning should be initiated before you are faced with an unplanned departure or resignation.  The strategies that will be discussed apply to small or large organizations and will provide how-to steps to put a proper succession plan in place.
