Learning Objectives:
1. Review the barriers preventing wider public and professional understanding and utilization of hospice and palliative care
2. Identify marketing, outreach and engagement strategies that providers can utilize to communicate the value of hospice and palliative care and their specific services
3. Develop a communications plan that leverages national, state and local efforts, while communicating the unique strengths of their organization
Participants will explore findings from national and community public opinion surveys and explore opportunities to demystify or counter the prevailing opinions regarding hospice and palliative care. Marketing, community education, outreach campaigns as well as paid, earned and social media will be discussed as elements of a multimodal campaign. Examples of marketing, outreach and community engagement strategies and messaging will be shared. The ROI of professional/consumer engagement and ways to develop a blended strategy to elevate awareness of comprehensive palliative care will be explored. Participants will be asked to share their previous efforts to communicate and market palliative care and hospice and we will identify thematic areas of success and evolve upon previous work.
