From a public relations standpoint, the Form 990 is the most comprehensive, publicly-available source of information about the activities of your hospice. The Form 990 is a critical document with two key enterprise risks:  Public Relations and Maintenance of Exempt Status.  The IRS and state and local taxing authorities will use the Form 990 to assess compliance with tax laws and adherence to mission and practices in order for a hospice to maintain its tax exempt status.  The Press and Whistle-blower organizations such as Guidestar and Charity Navigator are rating hospices based upon information provided in the Form 990.  Join Nicole Bencik, Partner, Crowe Horwath LLP and Richard Calcote, Chief Financial Officer, Spectrum Health Inc., as they discuss real life experiences with the misinterpretation and resulting scrutiny of the Form 990 and ways to avoid unnecessary attention.
