Friday, March 28, 2014: 11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Potomac 3-4 (Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center)
Primary Presenter:
Brian Jones, DHSc, CHPCA
Area of Emphasis: Ethics
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss the historical studies completed on medical marijuana
2. Define the concepts of evidence-based practice and quality of life
3. Identify ethical theories relevant to the use of medical marijuana with hospice patients
Studies on the efficacy of marijuana on pain and symptom management are sparse and contradictory. The scientific evidence is lacking on use of medical marijuana for patients in general and at the end-of-life specifically.   How can clinicians reconcile the available evidence with the desire to help a patient achieve a meaningful quality of life, which may involve using marijuana?
