CMS’ published a final rule for Long-Term Care Facilities in 2013 that included requirements for the arrangement and provision of hospice care in a skilled nursing facility. The Final Rule clarifies a SNF’s responsibilities for developing a written agreement with a hospice if a resident elects hospice services.  The rule also clarifies the responsibilities of facilities who choose not to contract for hospice services. We will discuss the reimbursement, contractual and regulatory issues for SNF and hospice providers to address under this new rule.
