This session will familiarize participants with the development and validation of the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) Hospice Survey, discuss the difference between the Family Evaluation of Hospice Care (FEHC) Survey and the CAHPS Hospice Survey, and describe how hospices may use survey results to promote quality improvement. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is requiring that hospices meeting minimum size requirements begin administering the CAHPS Hospice Survey in 2015. Many hospices will be transitioning from the Family Evaluation of Hospice Care survey to the CAHPS Hospice Survey.
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the CAHPS Hospice Survey items and composite measures
2. Discuss the difference in scoring of the CAHPS Hospice compared to the FEHC and its implication for interpretation of hospice quality
3. Identify the implications of the new survey for hospice quality improvement in light of changes from the FEHC
