Research has demonstrated that appropriate clinical supervision is essential for social workers to develop into skilled professionals. In many hospices, however, social workers are hired by and report to non-social workers. This session will discuss the benefits of clinical supervision for professional development, the positive impact on patient satisfaction, and models for meeting the clinical needs of hospice social workers, including consultation from social work clinical specialists and management by masters prepared social workers.

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the rationale for the provision of social work supervision by masters prepared social workers
2. Discuss the changing demographics of hospice patients that require a more skilled workforce, with access to same discipline clinical consultation
3. Describe models of supervision that address the clinical needs of social workers
