Wednesday, July 9, 2014: 12:30 PM-1:30 PM
Primary Presenter:
Brian Jones, DHSc, CHPCA
Area of Emphasis: Palliative Care Continuum
Learning Objectives:
1. Summarize how the legalization of marijuana is speeding ahead of research
2. Describe evidence based research which supports the use of medical marijuana in palliative care
3. Identify promising trends with the non-psychoactive elements of marijuana
Marijuana is now available for recreational or medical use in at least 20 states and the District of Columbia.  As the drug gains acceptance among the general population, the research continues to be lacking.  However, there is some limited research that indicates there may be therapeutic potential for palliative care patients.  In particular, there are lesser known components of marijuana that seem to hold promise for people with chronic and life-limiting diseases.
