1. Differentiate Alzheimer's disease from other forms of dementia
2. Identify the nine domains of cognition and related their decline to communication limitations
3. Apply practical strategies for improving non-verbal communication to enhance the patient to practitioner relationship
This session will begin with a review of dementia and the underlying cognitive skills that are lost during the disease process. The nine domains of cognition will be reviewed with an emphasis on those cognitive skills that affect communication between a patient and a practitioner.  Strategies and techniques to improve verbal and non-verbal communication in dementia will be explored, and participants will discover the unique patient and family dynamics associated with dementia at end of life.
