Quality bereavement care in pediatrics requires an interdisciplinary care team.  Bereavement care begins at referral through recognition of the parents’ role as a good parent, support in decision making, quality end-of-life care and provision of long-term bereavement follow-up for patients, parents, siblings and hospital staff.  This is achieved by integrating interdisciplinary palliative care services with a well-defined bereavement program.
