Cultivating the Lineage: Intermodal Teaching Strategies for Preceptor Training

Wednesday, November 7, 2012: 10:00 AM-11:00 AM
Primary Presenter:
Sharon Bigger, MA, RN, CHPN
Area of Emphasis: Education
Learning Objectives:
1. Explain the philosophy, purpose and effectiveness of intermodal teaching strategies for preceptor training
2. Demonstrate two expressive arts teaching strategies
3. Demonstrate two kinesthetic teaching strategies
Despite an overall culture of horizontal violence where “nurses eat their young,” hospice professionals – nurses, chaplains, social workers and bereavement counselors – are well practiced in compassion.  However, they often find themselves in precepting situations with insufficient training.  Thus, many hospice preceptors find themselves ranging in approach from caretaking to controlling and may also struggle adjusting to teaching while performing regular patient care.   This interactive session will provide practical tools to equip hospice preceptor-trainers to truly cultivate the lineage of hospice care.  The latest research is incorporated into this engaging session where expressive arts, kinesthetic learning and teaching philosophy will be taught and practiced.
