Texas B (Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center) - Convention Center - Level 3

The current medical model of care often focuses solely on the physical aspects of disease where patients are viewed as disease processes and not as whole persons. This approach does not allow the patient to achieve optimum health and wellness. By taking an integrative approach, addressing the whole person (body, mind and spirit), we often reach the root cause of pain and symptoms thus enabling the patient to heal from within. An Integrative Medical Model offers true holistic care and improvement in outcomes and symptom management. This presentation will introduce concepts of integrative medicine in hospice and palliative care and will prepare participants to apply these modalities with their patients.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe an Integrative Medical Model
2. Identify outcomes data utilizing an integrative approach
3. Discuss benefits of therapeutic touch, guided imagery, breath work and acupuncture/acupressure
