Wounds at the End of Life

This session will address the pathophysiology and classification of wounds and specifically focus on wounds at the end of life. Faculty will provide a palliative wound care management protocol with goals of therapy in patients receiving hospice and palliative care. Using clinical vignettes and photos of ischemic, vascular, pressure, fungating and Kennedy Terminal Ulcers, participants will identify specific wounds and achievable wound care management such as decreasing odor and bacterial colonization.  The session will also share innovative approaches to challenging wounds at the end of life.

1. Describe the pathophysiology and classification of wounds encountered at the end of life
2. Discuss the goals of therapy of hospice and palliative care in wound management
3. Identify innovative palliative wound care protocols and treatments for patients with terminal diseases
