The Moran Project - What the Data Tells Us about Hospice Payment Reform

Friday, April 8, 2011: 2:00 PM-3:00 PM
Primary Presenter:
Judi Lund Person, MPH
Co-presenters:
Rachel Feldman and Amanda Forys, MSPH
Area of Emphasis: Public Policy and Advocacy
Learning Objectives:
1. List the data elements considered by the Moran project in analyzing payment models
2. Describe three possible payment reform models
3. Describe the financial projections for an "average" hospice based on the payment reform models
In early 2010, NHPCO launched "The Moran Project," inviting hospice software vendors and their clients to participate in a large data-gathering project to provide patient-level and hospice-level data to project the costs of hospice care and help develop models that could be shared with MedPAC and CMS. The analysis is completed and a series of meetings with CMS and MedPAC have been held. In this session, you will hear what the analysis tells hospice providers about payment reform options.
