To Bill or Not to Bill: Keys to Physician and Nurse Practitioner Billing in the New Regulatory Landscape

Saturday, April 9, 2011: 10:00 AM-11:30 AM
Primary Presenter:
Meg Pekarske
Co-Presenter:
Chris Acevedo
Area of Emphasis: Regulatory Issues
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify hospice physician duties under the hospice per diem vs. those that are separately billable
2. Describe the key components of billable visits and common areas for improvement
3. Identify how to integrate physician billing into your current audit plan
While the duties and regulatory responsibilities of hospice physicians have grown and changed, the billing requirements have not. It is expected that government contractors will begin scrutinizing physician billing trends in hospices. To prepare, hospices need to understand what hospice physician services are separately billable, when a hospice can bill for the services of nurse practitioners and the impact of independent attending physicians on hospice billing. This session will help hospices gain the knowledge they need to stay ahead of the curve.
