Thursday, March 29, 2012: 2:15 PM-3:15 PM
National Harbor 4 (Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center)
Primary Presenter:
Stephen Leedy, MD, FAAHPM
Co-Presenter:
Kathleen Pacurar
Area of Emphasis: Access, Community Engagement and Marketing
Learning Objectives:
1. Explain the importance of "elevator pitches" in rapidly informing and influencing the listener
2. Identify the utility of hospice and palliative care "elevator pitches" in encounters with specific stakeholders
3. Describe the research evidence that can be used in crafting "elevator pitches"
An "elevator pitch" is a concise, two to three minute description of a topic, designed to engage the listener immediately and inform them rapidly. Although notoriously crafted as self-promotional pitches by middle managers anticipating serendipitous elevator rides with the CEO, these types of presentations are very effective in advocating for hospice and palliative care. Strategies for designing elevator pitches will be described; essential content for inclusion, particularly recent landmark research studies will be explained in terms understandable to the non-clinician; and opportunities for delivering these pitches will be identified.
