1. Discuss the various audit contractors including MICs, MACs, RACs and Zone Program Integrity Contractors (ZPICs)
2. Describe key audit risk areas impacting hospice and palliative providers such as length of stay issues
3. Identify proactive strategies to prepare for and manage a Medicare or Medicaid audit
This presentation will address recent developments related to Medicaid Integrity Contractors (MICs), Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) and Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs), and the impact they have on hospice and palliative care providers.  Attendees will learn proactive compliance measures and successful strategies for managing an audit that are essential for any practice. Faculty will describe the increased risks that accompany audits in light of recent legislation and regulatory guidance including the Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act amendments to the federal False Claims Act, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and new guidance highlighting the OIG’s ability to exclude a sanctioned entity’s owners, officers and managing employees.
