Compliance is more important than ever for hospice and palliative care organizations as the number of government auditors focusing on hospice care increases.  Improper physician/non-physician practitioner coding/billing is a risk area for an organization and can result in significant financial turmoil. Understanding the regulatory changes and increased scrutiny in the hospice industry is crucial to hospice regulatory compliance, physician retention, and organization survival. This preconference session will examine the components of physician, nurse practitioner and other non-physician contracting and billing, including opportunities for billing for symptom management services when a face-to-face encounter is conducted.  Faculty will discuss documentation pitfalls, ways to combat them and recent CMS transmittals that effect hospice and palliative care providers.
