Many organizations will encounter a crisis resulting in unwanted media attention. The story may involve your program or it might be of national scope and not specifically connected to your hospice. Regardless of where the story originates, negative media coverage will harm your organization’s reputation. Having a plan in place before this happens and understanding ways to work with the media will help you survive a difficult situation.

Learning Objectives:
1. Define a media crisis and describe the range of issues that might result in media attention
2. Describe how national news stories that don't involve your organization might draw media to your door
3. Prepare for a crisis before it occurs by creating a crisis communications plan
