This session will provide an overview of advocacy efforts on federal and state policy for diverse elders, including elders of color, American Indian/ Alaska Native elders, and LGBT elders. This interactive session will focus on the Diverse Elders Coalition and its member organizations’ work to amplify the voices of diverse elders in policy debates around older Americans. Participants will gain knowledge about initiatives to improve data collection, cultural competence and equity for all elders.

1. Discuss policy advocacy initiatives focusing on the needs of diverse elders
2. Describe organizations serving diverse constituencies at national and local levels
3. Identify potential next steps for increasing individual and organizational capacity to serve diverse elders
