As community-based palliative care grows, there is considerable focus on how will it be financially sustainable. Developing an interdisciplinary team to provide palliative services in the community setting has many challenges including many financial obstacles. It is important to understand traditional and potential new payment schemes that may support palliative services. Important also to a successful palliative program, is developing efficient processes within your organization to provide the highest quality palliative services in daily operations. This session will explore strategies within an organization to improve operational efficiency and grow volume within the context of a limited budget. Also, faculty will discuss LEAN principle approaches, limited-time trials to explore management process, stream-lining coding and billing, and visionary “outside the box” approaches with case studies and examples of ways to improve efficiency and volume of community-based palliative services.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe current and possible future payment streams for supporting community-based palliative care services within your organization
2. Develop at least three strategies for improving internal organizational palliative service efficiencies with a limited budget
3. Discuss how a palliative service can development efficient processes and support a growing volume of patients
