What do we know about toxicity and other dangers associated with recreational and “therapeutic” cannabinoid use? What is the state of the science regarding cannabinoids for symptom management in medical illness? What kind of inferences can be drawn by clinicians in the service of trying to help patients translate information from the available clinical science to the bedside and the counter at the marijuana dispensary? What possible jeopardy awaits physicians who endorse medical marijuana use by their patients? This session will address all of these questions and prepare you for counseling your patients.

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify behavioral risks associated with heavy chronic marijuana use in young people
2. Describe evidence-based uses of cannabinoids for symptom management in chronic medical illnesses
3. Describe important public health information about driving safety and drug overdose deaths in states after marijuana legalization
